After suffering a 2-0 setback against Al Fateh in their previous outing, Al Ittihad rallied to secure 68 points with just five fixtures remaining this season.
Al Ittifaq struck first in the fifth minute when Vitinho unleashed a powerful shot that took a deflection and found the back of the net. However, Al Ittihad leveled the score six minutes later, with Karim Benzema delivering a low cross that Danilo Pereira tapped in from close range.
Benzema then took charge, capitalizing on a defensive lapse to score their second goal ten minutes before halftime, calmly finishing a one-on-one opportunity.
Just before the break, Houssem Aouar extended Al Ittihad‘s lead to 3-1 following a precise low cross from Moussa Diaby.
The second half saw fewer chances, but tensions rose in the closing stages when Danilo inadvertently scored an own goal seven minutes before the final whistle, pulling Al Ittifaq back into contention.
Al Hilal falter in title race
Having narrowed the gap to four points last week, Al Hilal now face a daunting task in their bid to retain the league title.
Daniel Podence opened the scoring for Al Shabab in the seventh minute with a precise long-range effort. Sergej Milinkovic-Savic restored parity for Al Hilal in the 31st minute, expertly converting a clever pass from Salem Al-Dawsari.
Aleksandar Mitrovic nearly put Al Hilal ahead just before halftime, but his volley narrowly missed the left post.
Early in the second half, Salem put Al Hilal in front, slotting home a through-ball from Malcom with a clinical finish.
However, Mohammed Al-Shuwaikh equalized for Al Shabab in the 68th minute, heading home a powerful effort from a Podence corner.
Yannick Carrasco thought he had handed Al Shabab the lead three minutes later, but his goal was disallowed for offside.
Haroun Camara missed a golden opportunity to put Al Shabab ahead in the 82nd minute, firing wide in a one-on-one situation.
Despite relentless pressure from Al Hilal in the dying moments, Mitrovic’s close-range header struck the crossbar, and Malcom squandered a chance in stoppage time with a feeble shot.
